  • Grades 1-12

  • This is an all-inclusive, semester-long course.

Course Overview

This course introduces beginners to the sport of disc golf across 18 skill-building lessons. Students learn the fundamentals of play from the ground up:
  • how a hole is structured
  • basic rules and scoring
  • types of discs and their flight characteristics
  • proper technique for putting
  • proper form for backhand and forehand throws

Each lesson pairs direct video instruction with a fill-in worksheet, a practice exercise to reinforce the skill instructions, and a quiz. The course closes with a lesson on fun family game formats, making it easy to take skills straight to a course with friends and family.

Coach Bunky builds each skill on the last, so students develop real competence rather than just surface familiarity. By the end of the semester, students can step onto any public disc golf course and play a confident round.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

"Do we need access to a disc golf course to complete this class?"

Not right away. Most lessons are designed to be practiced in a backyard or open space using cones, a laundry basket, or a simple target net. Access to a real course becomes more useful as students progress, but it is not required to get started.

"What equipment do we need?"

A starter disc set with a putter, mid-range disc, and driver is recommended. You will also need a tape measure and cones or markers to set distances. A laundry basket or practice net is helpful but optional.

"Is this course just for kids, or can the whole family participate?"

The course is designed for any beginner, regardless of age. The final lesson focuses specifically on family game formats, so it works well as a course parents and students take together.

"How long are the lesson videos?"

Videos are brief skill lessons meant to be watched once before heading outside to practice. The emphasis is on doing, not screen time.

"What if my student struggles with a particular skill?"

Coach Bunky builds that expectation right into the course structure. Students are encouraged to revisit any exercise until the skill feels comfortable, since each lesson builds on the one before it.
