Course Overview

This course is created to help you learn the fundamentals of singing. This is taught through warm-ups and singing hymns and modern worship songs.

The goal in this course is to enable students to be able to grow in their singing ability while giving glory to the Lord through their talents. They will increase in their pitch matching ability, learn correct breathing techniques, & have clearer diction. They will utilize their chest, mixed & high voice as well as learn how to sing harmony. They will also learn to incorporate fun stylistic elements like dynamics, the vocal fry, vibrato and phrasing.

This course is designed for the beginner singer and contains 1 full semester worth of material. The semester has 9 lessons and those lessons each have 2 weeks worth of material.

By the end of this course, you will have learned all the building blocks it takes to be a great singer.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good age for my child to begin this course?

This course is designed for the beginner singer. It is listed as 10 years old and up; however, any age child can use this course. Keep in mind, however, that the more mature a voice is the more they will get out of the course which is why the recommended age is 10+.

If my child is not a beginner, can they still benefit from taking this course?

Absolutely! I recommend looking over the detailed course outline to see the concepts covered and as long as 50% are concepts that are new or not fully mastered yet, then there is plenty in this course that your child will benefit from learning.

How much will my child need to practice?

It is recommended to practice 5 days a week. Practicing for a vocal class means spending a minimum of 15 minutes a day doing warm-ups. On days when you are also singing a song, you should plan to warm-up for 10-15 minutes before working on the song.

Are there any prerequisites for this course?

This course has no prerequisites. You do not need to play an instrument to take this course, although singers who know how to play piano tend to progress faster in their vocal studies and enjoy it more.

If I want to take an instrument so I can accompany myself, which instrument should I take?

You can accompany yourself singing with guitar or piano. However, piano is the better instrument to take for singers. That is because you will be able to play your warm up exercises as well as the songs. Additionally, the worship piano course teaches the same exact songs that are in the singing course, so the worship piano course will teach you how to play specifically the songs you are learning to sing.

Are both boys & girls able to take this course?

Yes, either boys or girls can take this course. However, because the instructor is a female, the range of notes sung might not fit the male voices. Boys taking this course should be prepared to sing an octave lower than what they hear on the videos.
