Course Overview

This course is designed for someone who has completed worship piano level 1 or has a basic understanding of piano already and is ready to bring their knowledge to the next level! Children from middle to high school can use it (recommended ages 12-18).

The goal in this course is to enable students to be able to give glory to the Lord through their talents and lead others in worship to Him.

Learn everything you need to know to play on a worship team or to simply play worship songs for yourself and your family at home.

This is a 1 semester course with 9 lessons. Each lesson will cover 2 weeks worth of material. The first week of each lesson should be focused on learning all the new material and practicing the exercises in the lesson. The second week of each lesson is for learning the song and that song will implement all the new material from the lesson.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of instrument do I need for this course?

You must have daily access to a piano or keyboard. If you are using a keyboard it is recommended to have 88 keys with weighted keys, but not required.

What is a good age for my child to begin this course?

Since this course requires children to be able to learn on their own and goes at a fast pace, it is designed for students 10 years old and up. However, if a 8-9 year old has previous piano experience or has completed classical piano 1 with MasterBooks, they may be able to complete this course before the recommended age.

How much will my child need to practice?

For this level, it is recommended to play piano 5 days a week. Each day will either be learning the new lesson and practicing the homework assigned and should take between 10-20 minutes a day.

Do I need to also take the classical piano course to take this course?

This course has no prerequisites. You can take this course before, after or at the same time as the classical piano course. Although this course can be taken completely independently and has no prerequisites, It is recommended to pair this course with the classical piano course or to take it after you have completed the classical piano course. That is because learning to read music will open up more options in what students are able to play and how well they can play it.

If I’m already taking classical piano, why should I take this course as well?

The classical piano course and the worship piano course will teach you completely different styles of playing the piano. Although there might be a small amount of overlap of material, this course offers completely new and different material in each lesson than what is in the classical piano course. Taking both styles of piano makes for a well rounded pianist that is able to play all styles of piano music and not limited to only one style.

What is the difference between worship piano and classical piano?

This course is a fun way to learn to play music that sounds good fast because worship piano focuses less on reading notes and more on playing chords. Also, the type of songs learned in worship piano will be different than with classical piano. Worship piano will play chorded songs traditionally sung in a Sunday church service; whereas, classical piano focuses on a variety of written music. See the detailed course outline for a list of the songs learned in each lesson.
